About My Practice

Hello.   If you’re reading this message,  you’re probably considering therapy but might not know what to expect.  Therapy is different than a social conversation, in that it’s two of us talking about one person-you- in a confidential setting.  We talk about current and sometimes past unresolved issues, so that you can better enjoy your life without emotional baggage.  No issue we face is ever as big as the issue we avoid.  The swiss psychologist Carl Jung is noted for saying : ” What you resist persists.”

I am an in-network provider on most insurance plans, which means you are responsible for any deductibles and copays, and I bill the remainder for you from my office. You do not have to pay for the entire session up-front, unless you are self-pay.

Regarding my background, I’ve been in the field for over 30 years.  I started working literally the day after graduating from Columbia University School of Social Work, and feel just as devoted to this career as I did back then.  I’ve worked in agencies, corporations, and psychiatric hospitals as both a therapist and an administrator.  I went back to school and got an MBA in Healthcare Management.  One of my areas of interest is working with clients in the corporate world, helping you balance the demands of your job with spending enough time with friends and loved ones.

I’ve been working with clients experiencing mild to extreme levels of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder,  substance abuse, trauma, etc. throughout my entire career.  I love working with couples, whether you’re experiencing mild issues or on the verge of divorce.

I was originally trained at Columbia University in psychoanalytic insight-oriented psychotherapy, in which we look at past life themes and events and see how they may be impacting you still today.  I’m very involved with Cognitive Therapy, in which we look at negative thought patterns, and refute irrational thinking.  I teach Assertiveness Training, Anger Management, Relaxation & Mindfulness techniques.  I am trained in EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which includes the use of eye movements or other left-right stimulation, to reprocess traumatic thoughts and memories.

Despite educational background and therapeutic concepts, I believe that the vital component in the therapy process is the professional, ethical relationship between therapist and client. I feel honored to help you process your life issues and concerns.
